At Give A Paw Canine Wellness, LLC, we follow this basic process of learning to create conditions to consistently set your dog up for success, whether an older puppy, adolescent, or adult:
- Acquisition: Gaining the skill, through Luring, Capturing, and Shaping.
- Fluency: Mastering the skill, able to demonstrate it 95% when cued.
- Generalization: Applying the skill in any environment, regardless of distractions.
- Maintenance: Practicing the skill, to stay sharp.
Our POSITIVE TRAINING approaches are customizable, and are specifically adapted to meet your dog where they are, not where we wish they were, ALREADY. In our model, we reinforce what we like, and we redirect what we don’t. We never punish. Dogs are never bad; they just are. They are a product of how well they were socialized with their littermates and people during their critical developmental puppy stages.
During any training journey, we encourage our clients to step into their dog’s paws: See through their eyes. Smell their world, yep, even the gross stuff. Listen to the sounds that matter to them, like the skittering of an unseen animal. Be a dog. Live in the moment. Be with your pup “ITMO,” (in the moment) as opposed to “NITMo,” (not in the moment). And, hey, why not put your mobile device in your pocket? As trainer, learner, and pet parents agree and communicate openly and supportively, we will be on our way to creating a space where dogs and their people have their needs and wants met as harmoniously as possible!
Note the many advantages of the virtual format:
- Some dogs are uncomfortable with new people in their home, making training challenging. By interacting virtually, the dog does not need to see the trainer, nor experience that discomfort.
- These sessions are offered in the early mornings, late afternoons and early evenings allowing flexibility for those working day, swing, and night shifts, and who prefer the comfort of home as opposed to a training location that may be too far away
- The rate is lower than in-person services
- Many clients are excited to integrate technology, for example, when working on separation anxiety, the pet parent can “leave” and then watch the indoor camera on their tablet device to see how the dog responds. This helps the trainer hone in on which specific behaviors to address, for example, pacing, chewing furniture, panting, barking.
Virtual Training Sessions (VTS) PAW-CKAGE: These are 6 Seventy-Minute weekly online sessions with the petparent and dog at their home. A distraction-free environment is highly recommended. Once registered, clients will be invited to a ZOOM link to Give A Paw Canine Wellness, LLC.
